Kentucky Governor and First Lady Beshear honor Harmon Parker

Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear (right) presented Harmon Parker with an Acclamation today acknowledging Harmon’s work in building life-saving bridges in Kenya and for his selection as a Top Ten CNN Hero for 2010. The First Lady presented the Acclamation to Harmon and Teri Parker in the First Lady’s office inside the Kentucky State Capital Building in Frankfort, Kentucky.

“We are all so very proud of you as a Kentuckian,” Mrs. Beshear said, “and we are encouraging all Kentuckians to vote … and vote often … for Harmon to be CNN Hero of the Year.”

Lexington Mayor Declares October 26 “HARMON PARKER DAY”

Lexington Mayor declares Oct. 26 HARMON PARKER DAY

Lexington, Kentucky Mayor Jim Newberry (right) today declared October 26 as “Harmon Parker Day” at the Lexington City Council Meeting this afternoon.

Mayor Newberry presented Harmon with an official Proclamation that outlined Harmon’s working building footbridges in Kenya over the last twenty years and his creation of Bridging the Gap in 2003. The mayor made special note of Harmon’s recent honor of being named a Top Ten CNN Hero for 2010 and encouraged all to “vote and vote often” for Harmon to be the CNN Hero of the Year. The Proclamation ended with the formal declaration of “Harmon Parker Day.”

After watching Harmon’s CNN Hero video, the Mayor, all Council members, and everyone in the Council Chamber stood immediately to give Harmon a long standing ovation.

In thanking the Mayor, Harmon said that he will be proud to represent his hometown of Lexington at the CNN Tribute in Los Angeles on Thanksgiving Night.
