  • Scope of Work Description

    Bridging the Gap Africa (BtGA) is committed to improving the lives of rural communities in Kenya by providing safe and reliable access to essential services through the construction of footbridges.

    To support its projects and initiatives, BtGA is seeking a Fundraiser Consultant based in the United States (U.S.) to mobilize financial resources and expand its U.S. donor and partner base. The consultant will develop a U.S. donor landscape assessment for BtGA’s market that includes a SWOT, competitive matrix, pipeline of opportunities, partners to engage, and key events across a timeline for BtGA to implement to improve revenue. The consultant will develop a fundraising strategy as part of the organization's growth strategy that will include a specific engagement plan for the Founder to conduct a roadshow in the U.S. to support this revenue stream.

    The role is based in the U.S., will report directly to the Founder of BtGA, and work closely with the BtGA team.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop a comprehensive U.S. donor landscape assessment tailored to the U.S. market, including foundations, family foundations, and individual large givers with a pipeline of grant opportunities and donors/partners to engage;

    • Develop a fundraising strategy with a plan that includes a “how to” for developing a grants’ pipeline; relationships with U.S. based donor organizations; calendar of events; and a Founder’s U.S. roadshow with itinerary organized with and for a minimum of 10 events with foundations, donors, and givers where potential revenue and/or influence may be obtained; and join on the roadshow;

    • Present a slide deck of the assessment and strategy with findings and recommendations;

    • Conduct initial strategy donor/partner outreach for introductions, including those related to the grant to pursue and provide and track feedback;

    • Develop an outreach tracker with a follow-up plan post-initial donor/partner engagement;

    • Support the development of the roadshow including event planning, outreach, marketing, and public promotion; and contribute to the social media campaign;

    • Lead the BtGA storytelling for the fundraising events and contribute to the storytelling for other audiences;

    • Research grants that BtGA can pursue and provide an initial approach, method, and outline for three initial grant opportunities;

    • Basic searching, identification, and understanding/research of grant opportunities’ training to BtGA-identified staff;

    • Develop a tracker for engagement and the grants’ pipeline and update during the consultancy;

    • Provide an update on the fundraising tasks and outcomes every one to two weeks; and

    • Develop a slide deck that incorporates the tasks, deliverables, and next steps for BtGA to pursue fundraising at the conclusion of the consultancy.

    Qualifications

    • Proven experience in fundraising and donor relations, or related fields, preferably with a high win rate and strong donor network for organizations interested in supporting international development;

    • Demonstrated U.S. donor network and ability to cold call and engage new donors;

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and cultivate relationships with diverse donors and partners;

    • Familiarity with tools and processes for sourcing, writing, and delivering grant packages to donor organizations;

    • Innovative and creative approaches to obtain U.S. donor giving;

    • Knowledge of fundraising techniques, best practices, and compliance requirements in the U.S. donor market;

    • Proficiency in using fundraising software, donor management systems, and online fundraising platforms;

    • Collaborate and coordinate activities with the BtGA team; and

    • Any other tasks as required and within the timeframe.

    Timeframe and duration

    The expected start date is April/May 2024, but BtGA may be flexible with the qualified candidate.

    The expected duration is 55 days over 6 months and includes the following deliverables:

    • U.S. donor market landscape assessment

    • U.S. fundraising strategy

    • Founder roadshow plan and itinerary and joining the roadshow

    • Pipeline of opportunities

    • Partners and donors/funders to engage

    • Basic training on grant identification, research, and development of a grant to BtGA-identified staff

    • Storytelling for the U.S. donor market

    • Weekly/every two weeks’ reporting

  • Scope of Work Description

    The Business Development Consultant will help BtGA advance its mission by identifying and building revenue for the organization including fostering partnerships with donors and development organizations. The consultant will be expected to develop a market landscape assessment and a business development strategy as part of the organization's growth strategy that includes a SWOT, competitive matrix, pipeline of opportunities, partners to engage, and key events across a timeline for BtGA to implement to improve. Donors and partners are expected to come from locally-based and regionally-based funders and investors including the international development donor community; multinational financial institutions; the private sector; foundations; NGOs; and government entities.

    The role is based in Nairobi, Kenya, will report directly to the Founder of BtGA and work closely with the BtGA team.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement a market landscape assessment;

    • Building from the assessment, develop a business development strategy;

    • As part of the strategy, include a communications and engagement plan for BtGA to reach out to donors/funders and partners;

    • Conduct market research and analysis to identify and develop a pipeline of opportunities to build revenue for BtGA;

    • Develop a list of partners for BtGA to engage for potential partnership

    • Develop a list of donors/funders to engage for potential partnerships and

    • Develop a one-pager and slide deck, building from the existing materials to use for partner engagement; coordinate with the social media consultant

    • Prioritize donors/funders and partners and commence engagement, in coordination with the Founder;

    • Develop an engagement tracker and summarize engagement for BtGA after each engagement;

    • Provide a slide presentation of the deliverables; post-delivery of deliverables and initial engagement, provide recommendations and next steps in a slide presentation to BtGA;

    • Coordination and collaboration with the BtGA team members; and

    • Any other tasks as required and within the time frame established in the consultancy

    Qualifications

    • Demonstrated experience in business development, fundraising, or related fields, preferably in the non-profit sector or international development;

    • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to identify opportunities, assess risks, and develop actionable plans;

    • Demonstrated network of donors/partners;

    • Experience with donor (government, private sector, and/or foundation) funded programs;

    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills; demonstrated cold calling and engagement with partners and donors/funders;

    • Experience with business development tools and processes; Shipley trained preferred;

    • Familiarity with international development, including small-scale infrastructure, community engagement, sustainability principles; and humanitarian assistance;

    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team; and

    • Understanding and appreciation for BtGA’s mission.

    The Digital Content/Social Media Strategist consultant will enhance BtGA's visibility, engagement, and fundraising efforts by supporting the communications and engagement strategy with social media. This will help BtGA improve brand awareness and build revenue for the organization. The consultant will be expected to develop a social media landscape assessment for BtGA’s market with findings and recommendations for content, messaging, deployment of social media, and expected outcomes against a timeline. The consultant will develop a social media strategy that will fit within BtGA’s communications and engagement plan and social media content. The consultant will work with the BtGA team to deploy social media platforms.

    The role is based in Nairobi, Kenya, though BtGA may consider a remote position. The position will report directly to the Founder of BtGA and work closely with the BtGA team.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop a social media strategy that will be part of the communications and engagement strategy and that tells BtGA’s story;

    • As part of the strategy, identify the social media market BtGA is in and should be in; target audience(s); social media trends in the development sector, in particular for U.S. audience; tracking plan with metrics; content; and a content deployment plan on specific social platforms;

    • Recommend content to tell the BtGA story including the details of type, location, text, photos, video, and related materials/requirements;

    • Deliver social media management and provide tools and approaches for BtGA to carry forward its social media strategy;

    • Develop and edit content for BtGA to post and provide the “how-to” training for the BtGA team to develop and deploy;

    • Align messaging with BtGA leadership to ensure consistency in messaging and tone across all social media platforms

    • Develop, deploy, and follow-up one social media campaign for BtGA to evangelize its story to support the business development and fundraising consultant efforts;

    • Develop a social media tracking plan with metrics, and monitor to provide recommendations for updated/new content and cadence of content and on which platforms;

    • Provide a weekly social media update report via email to the BtGA team; report content to be developed with BtGA; and

    • Develop an initial slide deck presentation of the strategy including content and at the end of the engagement a final slide deck presentation with recommendations moving forward; and

    • Collaborate with the BtGA team and coordinate social media tasks with the BtGA team.

    Qualifications

    • Demonstrated experience in managing social media for organizations across key platforms for the purpose of building brand awareness and revenue for organizations;

    • Innovative and creative social media (multimedia) content development and tactics to build brand awareness and revenue;

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex ideas concisely and persuasively;

    • Command of social media platforms; content software; content uploading/deployment; platform management; and tracking;

    • Strategic thinking and analytical skills to interpret data, measure outcomes, and adjust strategies accordingly; and

    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.

    Timeframe and duration

    The expected start date is April 2024, but BtGA may be flexible with the qualified candidate.

    The expected duration is 64 hours over 2 months and includes the following deliverables:
